Anabel & Ivan Engagement Photos – Franklin Canyon Park, Beverly Hills

I met with Ivan and Anabel just for a quick pre-engagement shoot so we could get a photo for their save the date and ended up with some of my favorite photos yet! Anabel put together the most adorable wardrobe for the session. I am just loving the plaid/cardigan combo for winter engagement and family shoots. I can’t wait for the full e-session coming up!

Janet & Jonathan Engagement Photos – Santa Monica Beach

Santa Monica is one of my favorite spots for engagement sessions so when Jonathan and Janet told me they got engaged there, I knew the shoot would be extra awesome. I was a bit worried that we’d run out of light, but that was definitely not the case! The light down on the beach at sunset was juuuuust perfect.

My friends comment constantly about my jewelry obsession. They say if I could wear every piece I owned at once, I would. Truth is, they’re probably right. I love how a statement necklace, funky shoes, or a chunky gold watch can make a simple ensemble stylish.

Tip #3 for what to wear for an engagement shoot is accessorize people, accessorize! This tip is for the couples who a. don’t want to get too crazy with the clothing choices and/or b. don’t want to spend a ton on a new wardrobe for the shoot. Using accessories is a great, cheap way to change up an existing outfit.

Fall trends make accessorizing easy. This time of year, you can always (even in SoCal) add some boots, and a cozy beanie or shawl. Brining along a fun hat, scarf, or rain boots and umbrellas can add some fun to the shoot and give your outfit a little boost.

Look at all these goodies…I want each and every piece (and no, I wouldn’t wear them all at once).

Mary & Luis Engagement Session – Downtown LA

If you can’t tell by the amount of photos I’ve posted, I’m excited about this blog entry. I work with Mary so I see her all the time, but we never had a chance to get to know each other outside of the work environment. As we’ve talked about her wedding plans, her and Luis’ story, and just about anything non-work-related, I’m wondering more and more why we didn’t become friends sooner. She’s just a sweet girl and when I met Luis I was quickly convinced they were meant to be.

Amanda and I met them in downtown LA a few weekends ago for their engagement session and even my strep throat didn’t stop us from having a blast. We hit up some really awesome spots like the Central Library, the Walt Disney Concert hall, and some random federal buildings that got me my first ever verbal warning :) My favorite place however was the parking lot across from the concert hall. It was dark and funky on the lower levels, which made for some fun video light stuff. The top level was completely empty and showed of the LA skyline perfectly.
This is one of the first photos I took, they were so comfortable right away. Love that!One of my favorites!

Mary & Luis Engagement Session Preview – Downtown LA

Last weekend before I headed off to Atlanta for Pictage U, Mary and Luis met us in Downtown LA for their engagement session. We started around the Walt Disney Concert Hall, looped around to the library, and found some fun places in-between. Downtown has become one of my absolute favorite places to shoot! What to wear Tip #2 – Get your guy involved. So many of my guy friends don’t even know what an engagement shoot is. The first way to get your guy involved is to educate him. Explain to him why the shoot is important and show examples of engagement shoots that you like. This one would be hard for me, but ask him for ideas on location, possible themes, and clothing.

This tip is a “what to wear post” because a really good way to get him involved is to go shopping together before the shoot. Before you do this, discuss with him if he wants to be formal or casual, how many looks you’ll do, and what types of outfits best represent you two. Whether he picks out a few staple items, a stylish hat, a funny graphic tee, or a big ol’ watch (like the one below), encourage him to get excited about the clothes he will be wearing. I guarantee the shoot will turn out better!

Los Angeles Area Engagement Photo Sessions – What to Wear

When it comes to figuring out what to wear, I am by NO means an expert but I do for the most part know what’s in style and love to see fashion forward trends on other people. My personal style is limited by my budget and well…my budget. I do try to find more affordable pieces, put them together the way I like, and hope for the best. A few years back I had a very vocal roommate whose style I really respected. If there is ever an outfit that triggers the sound of Tiyson’s voice, not so gracefully telling me to go change, I usually do.

That being said, I see lots of engagement sessions and have many discussions about what to wear. I thought I would share some tips on what to think about while getting your outfits together.

Tip #1 – Wear something that you and your fiancé are both comfortable in. I am the queen of 5+ inch stilettos so I’m not saying (and would never say) skip the heels. By comfortable, I am talking more about style. I do think trendy is great, but don’t wear something that you’re not sure you even like. For example, if you squeeze your groom-to-be into the perfect pair of skinny jeans, I guarantee he’ll look super cute. I will also guarantee that if he’s never worn skinny jeans before, he will be staring at his skinny jean legs (instead of you) and wondering how you talked him into it.
