Emily Photo Wedding Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to the Emily Photo blog!

This is my happy place. My hope is that someday it will
be one of yours as well.

By following along, you'll get to know me a little better, but
in the meantime, here's a bit about me..

I love…

sunshine, dandelions, making a wish, landing at my vacation
destination, my grandma’s never ending hugs, wobbly toddlers, running
really really fast, fine art, my beach cruiser, an ice cold
dirty martini, a piping hot vanilla latte, lazy days, feeling
accomplished, Paula Abdul, uncontrollable laughter, Lifetime movies, memories,
capturing memories.

I have…

an obsession
with small fluffy dogs, a familiar face, a sassy side, amazing support, a
camera on me at all times, a lot to learn.

I am…

silly,
Tanorexic, a twitter junkie, emily-photo.

Emotions are my
inspiration.  I hope to capture and
showcase the emotions of you and your guests, every little detail that makes
your day perfect, laughter, tears, families, and fun.

Jose & Karla Picnic Style Engagement Session Part 1 – Hidden Hills

I’m running out the door to attend a 3-day photography event in San Diego, but wanted to post a few favorites from Karla & Jose’s engagement session. Karla set up the most adorable picnic in the Hidden Hills area, she’s amazing! I have LOTS more to post, here are just a few for now…

Miki - B-E-A-utiful!!!May 24, 2010 - 10:17 pm

Joe+Kathrina - What a fun loving couple! I'm pretty much in love with the location and hello beautiful light!July 1, 2010 - 9:27 pm

Brianna & Reid Long Beach Wedding – Recreation Park 18 Golf Course

When I first started shooting weddings, I teared up at almost every single one. It’s no secret that I’m an extremely emotional girl, but as the weddings become more frequent, I got better and better about holding myself together. I thought I had it all figured out. During the father daughter dance, I force a smile. During the vows, I tell myself, “this is a happy time, this is a happy time.” Yeah, I know…I’m a sucker.

Reid and Brianna had the power to make me cry at the most unusual time…the bride and groom portraits! It’s hard to explain what got me, but they are a very chill, non-dramatic couple. To see them be so excited, so genuinely happy to be married, and to be part of that moment, was emotional. You’ll see more of that in part two, but here are some of my favorites so far.
Thanks to Christine for some of the detail shots below!

Paul Manke - Gorgeous! They are awesome Em!May 20, 2010 - 10:56 am

Pam - Emily....what beautiful shots of that happy day! Can't wait to see more. You have an amazing eye for capturing lovely images that speak a thousand words. pfMay 24, 2010 - 6:36 pm

Los Angeles Area Engagement Photo Sessions – What to Wear

When it comes to figuring out what to wear, I am by NO means an expert but I do for the most part know what’s in style and love to see fashion forward trends on other people. My personal style is limited by my budget and well…my budget. I do try to find more affordable pieces, put them together the way I like, and hope for the best. A few years back I had a very vocal roommate whose style I really respected. If there is ever an outfit that triggers the sound of Tiyson’s voice, not so gracefully telling me to go change, I usually do.

That being said, I see lots of engagement sessions and have many discussions about what to wear. I thought I would share some tips on what to think about while getting your outfits together.

Tip #1 – Wear something that you and your fiancé are both comfortable in. I am the queen of 5+ inch stilettos so I’m not saying (and would never say) skip the heels. By comfortable, I am talking more about style. I do think trendy is great, but don’t wear something that you’re not sure you even like. For example, if you squeeze your groom-to-be into the perfect pair of skinny jeans, I guarantee he’ll look super cute. I will also guarantee that if he’s never worn skinny jeans before, he will be staring at his skinny jean legs (instead of you) and wondering how you talked him into it.

I love the ideas for the Spring Season on Polyvore.com! Here’s a recent Spring Engagement Photo Session inspiration set I put together.

Tip #2 coming soon…

Joe - All great suggestions, but what are men suppose to wear?? Are cut off jeans shorts acceptable?? hahaMay 18, 2010 - 8:23 am

Emily - Yes, you can wear cut off jeans if you like them Joe!May 18, 2010 - 8:30 am

Miki - Love:)May 24, 2010 - 10:16 pm

Jenelle & Matt Santa Monica Engagement Session Cont.

I’ve known Jenelle since my very first day at Oregon State. It’s so crazy to think it was almost ten years ago that we both entered the rush process and soon after joined the same sorority. Us AGD’s may not have been known for our superior grades, community service, or good behavior, but we were the girls who knew how to party and yeah, we take a lot of pride in that. Matt was in a frat known for the same thing, but on a whoooole different level. Needless to say, we had some fun, SO much fun!

I haven’t seen them in years so it was amazing to see how we’ve all grown up. They are even more adorable together than they were back then. I am beyond excited for them!

p.s. Jenelle is a makeup artist and does an AMAZING job. I highly recommend her for weddings in the LA/OC area.
